Gorée Island
Gorée Island lies off the coast of Senegal, opposite Dakar. From the 15th to the 19th century, it was a slave-trading centre. Ruled in succession by the Portuguese, Dutch, English and French, its architecture is characterized by the contrast between the grim slave-quarters and the elegant houses of the slave traders.
Lac rose
This lake is named for its pink waters caused by an algae and is known for its high salt content, up to 40%.
Joal-Fadiouth
Joal-Fadiouth is a village at the end of the Petite Côte of Senegal, south of Dakar. Fadiouth lies on an island of clam shells, which are also used in local architecture. It has large Christian and Muslim populations with cemeteries on another shell island.
Fathala Reserve
The Fathala Wildlife Reserve consists of more than 5000 hectares of protected forest. It’s possible to walk with Lions in a separate part of the Reserve.
Saloum Delta
Sine-Saloum Delta is a river delta at the mouth of the Saloum River where it flows into the North Atlantic Ocean.
